Celebrating Black History: Eartha Kitt

Eartha Kitt was an actress, singer, activist and more.

Kitt was the first actress of color to play the leading role of Catwoman in the mainstream Batman series in the late 60’s. This opened a lot of doors for herself and other black women to star in leading roles as well as overriding the interracial taboo with the flirtatious interactions between herself and Batman. Her other accomplishments include the Christmas classic song, “Santa Baby,”and her popular roles as Madame Zeroni in Disney’s movie Holes, and the voice of Yzma in Disney’s Emperor’s New Groove movies and later TV series.
